Covington Shifts Focus Back to ASCS After Weekend with High Limit at TMS
Glenpool, OK (May 5th, 2026) — Matt Covington stepped outside his comfort zone last week, tackling a pair of 410 sprint car starts with the High Limit Sprint Car Series at Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track during the Nascar Weekend. Competing against some of the best 410 drivers in the country, Covington used the opportunity to gain valuable experience and continue developing the Matt Covington Racing program during an off weekend from American Sprint Car Series competition.
Thursday night marked Covington’s first-ever High Limit start and one of his limited appearances in a 410-sprint car. While qualifying proved to be a challenge, the team focused on making gains as the night progressed.
After qualifying, Covington lined up eighth in his heat race and finished seventh, missing a transfer to the A-Main by one position and sending him to the B-Feature. Starting third in the B, Covington maintained his position to secure a transfer into the main event.
In the A-Main, Covington steadily improved as the race went on, learning more about the 410 platform and track conditions, ultimately finishing 16th.
Saturday night brought a similar path for the Glenpool, Oklahoma native.
Following another tough qualifying effort, Covington again started seventh in his heat race and finished seventh, forcing him into the B-Feature. This time, he elevated his performance, charging to a second-place finish to lock into the A-Main.
In the feature, Covington battled throughout the field while continuing to adapt to the 410 setup. Despite missing the mark slightly on balance, he gained valuable knowledge and experience, crossing the line in 20th.
“All in all, it was a good weekend for us,” Covington said. “We knew going in that this would be a learning curve with the 410, especially against a field like that. We learned a lot each time we hit the track, and that’s only going to make us better moving forward.”
The weekend also marked a special partnership with Niece Equipment Company, whose support and hospitality played a key role in the team’s weekend efforts.
“We can’t thank Niece Equipment Company enough for coming on board with us for this weekend,” Covington added. “Partners like them allow us to keep building and developing this race team, allowing us to come to some of these specialty events, and we’re really appreciative of their support.”
While the results may not fully reflect the progress made, the experience gained against elite competition provides a strong foundation as Covington returns his focus to the American Sprint Car Series championship chase in his familiar #95 TripleX/Missel Motorsports/Fisher Engines powered 360 sprint car.
