Covington Prepares for Montana After a Pair of Top-5s

Matt Covington Racing – Glenpool, OK. (Aug. 20, 2025) – After a busy week in Knoxville, Matt Covington and the ASCS National Tour shifted their focus back to the road this past weekend. Covington collected a pair of solid finishes, scoring 5th at WaKeeney Speedway on Friday and 4th at El Paso County Raceway in Colorado on Saturday.

“Not sure what to really say about last weekend,” Covington admitted. “It was a unique couple of nights to say the least. We had speed at different times, but a few circumstances made things more challenging than we would’ve liked. Friday, we found a bleeder issue after the heat race that hurt us early. By then, we were already starting deep in the feature, but we were able to charge back to 5th and just ran out of laps to gain more."

“Saturday was better, but unfortunately, we drew the six pill for the dash, which made it tough to start toward the front. The feature was a battle, and with quality cars ahead of us, it was dog fight gaining each spot and ended up 4th. We’re still hunting for that little extra to consistently compete with Sam night in and night out. The positive is that it’s pushing all of us on the Tour to elevate our game. We’ll just keep plugging away and working hard. Steven has the car ready, and hopefully we can break through this weekend in Montana, where we’ve had success in the past.”

Covington and the ASCS National Tour now head to Billings, Montana, for a two-night stop at Big Sky Speedway this Friday and Saturday.
