Podium for Covington at Knoxville
Matt Covington Racing – GLENPOOL, Okla. (May 7, 2025)
Matt Covington came away with a strong 3rd-place finish this past weekend at the historic Knoxville Raceway.
With the ASCS National Tour off for the weekend, Covington and crew made the trip to Knoxville for Saturday’s weekly action to knock off the rust and collect valuable data in preparation for the upcoming Knoxville 360 Nationals in August.
Matt posted the 10th fastest qualifying time, placing him 3rd on the grid for his heat race. He drove to a 2nd-place finish in the heat, securing the 7th starting position in the 18-lap A-Main. Once the green flag dropped, Covington steadily worked the bottom groove, picking off cars one by one to break into the top five early. He continued his charge and moved into 3rd as the race wound down, holding that spot at the checkered flag to secure a solid podium finish.
“I was pretty happy with how things went at Knoxville on Saturday,” commented Covington. “We weren’t as strong in qualifying as I’d like, but we’ve got some notes now on what to change. Toward the end of the feature, I got a little tight and waited too long to move up to the top in one and two. But overall, we had good speed and a direction to go for next time. Knoxville is definitely a different animal compared to most places we race, so every lap we get there helps. I’m optimistic for our next trip.”
Up Next:
Weather permitting, Matt and the team will head to Kentucky this weekend to compete with the ASCS National Tour at Paducah International Raceway, a track where Covington has previously found success.
