Covington Picks Up USCS Win at Hattiesburg
Matt Covington Racing- Glenpool, OK (March 5th, 2025) Matt Covington and team picked up their first win of 2025 this past weekend with the USCS at Hattiesburg Motor Speedway.
On Friday night, Matt was able to advance from 8th to 4th in the heat, giving him an outside, row two starting spot for the feature after the completion of the dash.
When the green waived, Covington charged to the lead and never relinquished it. Setting the pace through the race, Covington was only challenged while navigating through lapped traffic. Matt ultimately came home first after a couple of late-race cautions.
With the first successful night under their belt, Matt and Steven tried to double up on Saturday night. However, it was derailed at the start of the feature as Covington was collected in an incident beyond his control on lap one.
“This year has started off with decent speed, and I was finally able to get a win the other night,” stated Matt. “With the break in the ASCS schedule, we’ve been able to run most of these USCS Winter Heat races, which gives us a perfect opportunity to get a routine and dial everything in for the meat of the season coming up. That was a fun race, a track I enjoy racing and running the top at. I think on Saturday night we had another shot at a win or to rally up through there, but I go collected up in someone else’s mistake and never got the opportunity to find out. But we will take it and try to build on the momentum to keep running strong throughout the next few weekends and this season. We are going to stay up here and run Deep South this weekend and maybe hit a few more before switching back over to take on the National Tour.”
