Podium for Covington at Magnolia

Matt Covington Racing GLENPOOL, Ok. (March 15, 2023) Matt Covington closed out the early season USCS stretch with a solid podium and 3rd place effort this past Saturday night.

Covington’s 3rd place run was to be the only one of the originally scheduled double-header weekend due to Friday’s rainout at Magnolia Motor Speedway.

“We were pretty fast all night”, stated Covington. "The draw was deep but ended well for us as we were able to win the heat from 5th. During the dash, the track was still tacky and fast so we were good, but didn’t have enough laps to move up much. We started 4th in the feature. We had the speed and I worked up into second to challenge for the lead. The track still had a ton of grip and when I went to pass for the lead, the car bicycled, costing us a couple of spots. Fortunately, I was able to get one back to finish 3rd. It was frustrating knowing we definitely had a winning car but missed the win. But on the flip side, it gives me confidence going into the ASCS season. It’s been good for me and my new crew guy to get some experience together for a few races. Steven is still learning, but he’s done a great job and is working hard.”

Next up for Covington and the team was scheduled to be the ASCS National Tour season kick off at the famed Devil’s Bowl Speedway this weekend. However, the weather has forced the cancellation of that event. Unless plans change, Covington and team will most likely return to team headquarters in Oklahoma to regroup for their next event.
