Covington Comes Home 2nd and 4th to Kick-off 2018

CG Motorsports- GLENPOOL, Ok. (February 27, 2018) Matt Covington came home with a pair of top-5’s this past weekend to kick off the 2018 season against the USCS Sprint Car series.

“The car was fast which allowed us to have strong runs, putting us in the A-main both nights last weekend,” stated Covington. “We were lucky with the pill draw on Friday. We won the heat and started 4th in the feature. The track was pretty narrow but we were able to squeeze and work our way into second. But once the rubber hit, we weren’t able to get past the leader and had to settle for the runner-up spot. As luck would have it, when Saturday rolled around, we drew a high pill, making us work from the back of the heat. We were able to gain some passing points by going from 8th to 4th. That put us starting 8th in the A main. We went forward in the feature, despite having to hustle a very tight race car, and came home 4th in the end. We were just too tight in the feature to challenge for the win. It was just so slick on Friday that I thought Saturday would be the same and took too much stagger out. They did a good job working the moisture back into the track to provide a lot more bite on Saturday. But all in all, it was a good start to the year and a great way to shake the cars down, kicking off 2018 with a pair of solid top-5’s. This weekend we are going to run again with the USCS at Hattiesburg and Magnolia before gearing up for the ASCS National tour opener at Devil’s Bowl in a few weeks.”
