Covington Heads To STN, After 5th Place Run in Colorado
CG Motorsports- Glenpool, Ok. (Oct. 11th, 2017) Matt Covington grabbed another top-5 with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour last Saturday at El Paso County Raceway during the Colorado ASCS Fall Nationals.
Covington took on the unique, short track after a rain out on Friday, which postponed racing until Saturday. Matt made the best of the pill draw, earning the heat race win after starting outside the front row of the 3rd heat.
The win put Covington into the nights redraw where he pulled the 5th starting spot for the A-main.
At the drop of the green, Covington aimed to move forward. Working the low groove, Matt was able to make his way into 3rd in the early laps. He held his ground until a caution waved with 7 laps to go. A battle on the restart caused Matt to slip back into the 5th position where he remained until the checkers waved, obtaining another top-5.
“We had a decent and competitive run last Saturday,” stated Covington. “We were up to 3rd and should have finished there, but I just didn’t have a great restart there with that last caution. That track was very unique and we got a little tight in the closing laps. But we grabbed another heat win and top-5, so all in all it was a good night for us. We will go to STN this week and try to have some good runs the first couple nights that will put us in position for a good finish on Saturday.”
