Covington Comes Home 6th at Jackson Motorplex

CG Motorsports-Glenpool, Ok. (9/6/17) Matt Covington came home 6th this past Saturday night with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at Jackson Motorplex.

Covington was able to charge from 8th to 3rd in his heat race, resulting in the FSR High Point Driver of the Night award and a slot in the re-draw.

Covington drew the number 2 pill and started outside row 1 for the feature.

Matt battled most of the race inside the top-3 trying to keep pace with the leaders. However, as the race went on, he lost a few spots running the top groove and the cushion. Covington fell out of the top-5 and was running in 6th. As the laps wound down the track began taking rubber, preventing him from regaining any of the lost positions. He had to settle for 6th.

“I would have liked to have a better finish at Jackson,” Matt said. “We had a great heat race and were able to get the passing points needed to get in the re-draw. In the feature, we were just off a little. We didn’t have the corner or straightaway speed we needed. After blowing the one motor up at Knoxville, our remaining two both have over 20 nights on them and I didn’t want to push it. I’m not sure we had a winning car, but I shouldn’t have lost as many spots as I did. I just made a few mistakes. But hopefully we can finish the rest of the season out strong. We might run some regional stuff this weekend, but we also want to be prepared for the Hockett Memorial. We need a fresh motor to close out the year with and taking the next few weeks to get that done.”
