Covington Comes Home 3rd At Devil's Bowl To Kick Off Speedweek

Covington Motorsports- Glenpool, Ok. (June 16, 2015) Matt Covington and the Covington Motorsports team scored another top-5 at Devil’s Bowl to kick off the ASCS National 2015 Summer Speedweek.

Covington powered his T&L Foundry/ Triple X chassis to a 3rd place finish during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event at Devil’s Bowl Speedway last Saturday night.

“It was another solid night for us,” Covington said, “We really get around Devil’s Bowl pretty well. I am honestly not sure if we had anything for Wayne, he was fast. But other than him we had a great car and I felt we were as good, or better, than the rest of the field.”

Matt took advantage of a front row starting spot in the heat and walked away with the win by over half a straightway.

Covington advanced to the redraw after the heat effort. Matt found himself starting the feature from the outside of the third row after drawing the “six” pill in the redraw.

“I knew we were going to have our work cut out for us after the redraw,” stated Matt. “With these national boys it’s harder to advance once you’re in the top-10 because everybody is so fast. Plus the track was still good and racy with a big cushion up top.”

Matt went to work once the green flag waved and worked his way forward into the top-5 by midway. Covington had some challenges advancing late having to use sliders to finally advance into third. Matt kept fighting for positions in his A-Rock Materials/Wesmar powered machine in the closing laps, but when the checkers flew, Matt ultimately settled for the 3rd position.

“The track was tricky in the feature,” he said. “It had a narrow groove of moisture on the bottom in the corners but slick down the straightaways with a nasty curb on the cushion. It was really hard to maintain a pass and we had to use some sliders during the race. But to start 6th and finish 3rd, I am happy with it. Hopefully we continue to stay upfront and battle for wins during speedweeks and the upcoming races.”

Matt and his Covington Motorsports team would like to thank all partners who have helped make the 2015 season possible and look forward to the continued relationship throughout the year: T&L Foundry, Triple X Chassis, A-Rock Materials, Winters, Brodix, C.G.
