Matt Covington's Aug. 22nd and 23rd Re-cap

Matt and crew took a much needed weekend off after a double header last weekend. Last weekend on Aug. 22nd and 23rd the Covington Motorsports team raced at Oklahoma City and Lawton Speedway. Friday night at State Fair Speedway Matt was able to bring the Covington Motorsports Wesmar, Maxim home 2nd. Matt was able to jump out front and lead the early laps of the race before Jason Johnson took over the lead. Matt would chase Jason to the stripe and come home with a solid 2nd place finish. This finish would also help as Matt was able to close the points gap in the ASCS Sooner region championship.

A" Feature (25 Laps): 1. 41-Jason Johnson, 2. 95-Matt Covington, 3. 94-Danny Wood, 4. 1j-Danny Jennings, 5. 50z-Zach Chappell, 6. 4-Eric Baldaccini, 7. 03-Joe Wood, Jr., 8. 27-Andy Shouse, 9. 81au-Gavin Punch, 10. 2w-Whit Gastineau, 11. 22-Koby Barksdale, 12. 25-Brian McClelland, 13. 15k-Kerry McAlister, 14. 55-Donnie Ray Crawford, 15. 12w-Dale Wester, 16. 0c-Preston Peebles II, 17. 85s-Forrest Sutherland, 18. 28-Chris Lloyd, 19. 21s-Michelle Decker, 20. 4s-Robert Sellers.

On Saturday Aug. 23rd, Matt and crew traveled to Lawton Speedway for another exciting night of racing. With a middle of the pack draw, Matt was able to finish 4th in the heat. This would lock Matt into the A-Main but not grant enough passing points to make the re-draw. Matt would start 10th in the A-Main on a very hard, glassy, dry slick race track. These conditions would make for a tough and long race for the Glenpool, Oklahoma driver. Matt was able to hang on and battle though the race to come home in the 10th position and add another top-ten for the year.

The next scheduled ASCS Sooner regional race is at Creek County Speedway on Sept 19. Matt and the team will take the next few weekends until then to do some testing and maybe pick up a race or two within the four state area. The Covington Motorsports Team is shooting for a strong showing to gain some more ground on the Sooner Region championship. Matt will continue with the ASCS Sooner region and filling in other races when time permits. Matt is still sitting 2nd in ASCS Sooner points and hopes to close that gap in the last few races this year. Stay in tune with Matt through the team website, www.mattcovington95.com and a very special thanks goes out to T&L Foundry, C.G. Martin Company, Motorsports Trailers, Pro Shocks, Keizer Wheels, Butler Built Race Seats, Maxim Racing Chassis, Simpson Race Products and Schoenfeld Headers
