Pair of Top-5s for Covington at LOS

CG Motorsports- GLENPOOL, Ok. (April 8th, 2021) Matt Covington came home with a pair of top-5’s this past weekend at Lake Ozark Speedway with the ASCS Sooner/Warrior region.

Both nights forced Covington to fight hard for his finishing positions. Friday night started well with a heat race win from the outside pole position. This effort set him up in the 6th starting position for the night’s A-Main. However, Covington was faced with a few obstacles to earn his 4th place finish.

“We had a fast car Friday,” Covington commented, “but the results didn’t show that very well. The track surface was also rough in a few spots and had some holes I had to be careful of. Making contact with other cars twice during the race didn’t help anything either, almost having to come to a stop after one. That cost me quite a few spots. So, I had to come back all the way from outside the top 10 to get back up to 4th.”

Saturday was also a challenging night for Covington and the team. After a 3rd place heat finish with no passing points, he had his work cut out for him starting 11th in the feature.

“Saturday did show off how fast the car was,” Matt remarked. “We were able to drive through the field pretty quickly and had a winning car speed wise. Unfortunately, after getting up to 5th to run down the leaders, we ran into car problems. From then on, I had to go into survival mode just to keep my spot until the end and finish the race. But all in all, two top-5’s and a fast race car makes a pretty good weekend for the team.”

With the changing of the weather forecast, Matt Covington is undecided where they might race this weekend.
