Covington Comes Home 4th at Tri-State
CG Motorsports- Glenpool, OK (June 4th, 2020) With no National Series action, Matt Covington and team decided to stay close to home and run with the ASCS Sooner Region this past weekend. Matt Covington picked up a 4th place finish at Tri-State Speedway on Saturday night in Pocola, Ok.
After finishing 2nd from 4th in the heat, Matt found himself in the redraw. Matt pulled the 6th starting position for the night’s A-feature.
Covington used his outside placement at the start to stay towards the front and attempt to run down the leaders. By mid-race, Covington was able to work up into 2nd. Unfortunately, his charge was soon halted when mechanical issues arose. Fighting to control the car, Matt held on to only lose 2 spots as the checkers flew, earning 4th to conclude the night.
“The car was pretty good in the beginning of the feature, keeping us in the front,” stated Matt. “Then I started to have part issues and just had to hold on at that point to finish the race. It was fading more and more with every lap. I don’t think we had anything for Blake, but it would have been nice to give it the best effort we had until the end. Luckily it wasn’t a national race and we’ll have the car fixed up before we hit the track next.”
Matt and team are considering running a local show at Lake Ozark Speedway this coming Saturday.
